Siem de Jong menyumbangkan dua gol yang memastikan gelar juara Eredivisie Belanda bagi Ajax Amsterdam dengan mengalahkan FC Twente 3-1, Minggu (15/5) lalu.

Usai pertandingan, De Jong bersuka cita merayakan gelar juara Ajax ke-30.

Menurut Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United punya banyak cara membelenggu mega bintang Barcelona Lionel Messi saat kedua tim bertarung memerebutkan trofi supremasi sepakbola Eropa, Liga Champions, 28 Mei nanti.

"Saya gugup sepanjang pertandingan.

Media Italia meyakini, Reto Ziegler tinggal selangkah lagi menjadi pemain Juventus.

inter 1-1 Roma (2-1 agg.): Leonardo's men into Coppa Italia final despite gallant Roman fightback

Coppa Italia holders Inter will defend their title against Palermo in this season’s final after a 1-1 draw in the semi-final second-leg against Roma on Wednesday night. A solitary Dejan Stankovic strike in last month’s first-leg was enough to give Leonardo’s side a one-goal cushion going into this evening’s clash, in which a Samuel Eto'o goal proved enough to finish the job and ensure Inter would progress despite a nervy ending after Marco Borriello netted a late header.
Roma started the match brightly as they looked for an early away goal to level the aggregate score. In the 10th minute Borriello pounced on a Maicon slip on the edge of the box but rifled over the crossbar. Roma captain Daniele De Rossi appeared particularly eager to address the deficit and twice went close shortly after Borriello’s miss.
A neat exchange around the edge of the box between David Pizarro and Jeremy Menez ended with De Rossi whipping a curling snapshot inches wide of Julio Cesar’s left-hand post.
De Rossi then expertly dropped a shoulder to work the ball past Houssine Kharja before sending a shot arrowing back across his body towards the top corner. Julio Cesar and the Giuseppe Meazza crowd breathed a sigh of relief as it fizzed past the upright.
Although Inter eventually found their feet and had a sustained spell of dominance between the 25th minute and half-time, they too failed to truly test the opposition goalkeeper.
Doni watched as Eto’o dragged a low shot past the post and easily caught a weak Kharja drive which lacked direction.
Inter continued to see more of the ball following those missed opportunities but failed to penetrate the Roma backline as the first 45 petered towards a tame conclusion.
Off and running | Roma had no answer for Eto'o who fired Inter into the final
If anything, the beginning of the second half was less of a spectacle as both sides committed foul after foul as the play continuously stopped and started.
However, the goal that the game, although certainly not those of a Roma persuasion, craved arrived in the 58th minute.
A Kharja cross appeared to flick off Simone Perrotta’s outstretched hand, drawing huge appeals from the Inter players except one notable exception in the shape of Eto’o, whose only thought was to latch on to the loose ball and stroke a cool side-footed effort beyond the motionless Doni to open the scoring.
Giampaolo Pazzini came close to making it two when he bundled his way into the box and fired off a powerful angled drive, but Doni sprung to his left to thwart him with an excellent save.
Roma also had their goalkeeper to thank when he produced another fine stop to deny Inter sub Diego Milito in the 72nd minute, when the Argentine striker fastened on to compatriot Javier Zanetti’s sumptuous slide-rule pass.
However, it was the visitors who finished the game with a flurry. Borriello was incredibly unlucky not to reduce the deficit in the 76th minute when he latched onto Mirko Vucinic’s visionary pass and smashed a shot beyond Julio Cesar but watched in agony as the ball hit both posts and rebounded to safety.
Borriello would not be denied, however, and rose above Lucio to head a Perrotta cross into the net to spark a frantic end to the match.
In the end, the Romans could not find the goal they needed to snatch the win as Inter celebrated captain Javier Zanetti's 1000th career appearance with a trip to the final against Palermo on May 29.

Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to bring Schalke's Manuel Neuer to the Allianz Arena, according to Bild.

The Bavarian giants will pay €18 million upfront for the 25-year-old with a further €7m a possible part of the transfer, €3m guaranteed with the remaining €4m in performance-related bonuses.

Schalke accepted Bayern's offer after three hours of negotiations between the two clubs with it being reported that Neuer will sign a four-year contract with the Munich powerhouse.

Despite Neuer publicly declaring his intention to leave the Gelsenkirchen club this summer, a deal between the two side's looked unlikely when negotiations began in late April, according to Schalke's sporting director, Horst Heldt.

"The offer from Bayern was not worth mentioning, not acceptable. It is seriously worth considering keeping the world's best goalkeeper for another year," the club's sporting director told German media last month.

However, talks between the two parties on Tuesday were more successful with Heldt claiming: "Yes, we [Schalke and Bayern] had a decent conversation."

Neuer's imminent departure has lead to speculation regarding who will replace the keeper with Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg emerging as a likely candidate, according to Derwestern.

The Dutchman is highly-sought after with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus and Tottenham all being linked with the keeper in recent weeks.

Stekelenburg currently has one-year left on his contract with the 28-year-old thought to be valued at around €12m.

Other possible replacements for Neuer are Werder Bremen's experienced man between the sticks, Tim Wiese and Hannover's Ron-Robert Zieler, who has been a revelation in 2011

European football needs Financial Fair Play to save the game from 'disaster' - Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino

Michel Platini's right-hand man says the Fair Play legislation is wanted and insists Europe's governing body will not shy away from enforcing the rules on big clubs

Uefa has delivered its toughest message yet to clubs that continue to overspend in the chase for football’s top prizes as it ushered in a new set of rules that have been introduced to avoid “disaster” in European football.

In an exclusive interview with Goal.com, Gianni Infantino, the governing body’s general secretary, insisted that top clubs across Europe who fail to comply with the new Financial Fair Play legislation, which will be phased in from next month, will be excluded from the Champions League and Europa League.
He declared that the rules will be rigidly applied no matter the size of the club. Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona are among those who posted huge losses in their most recent set of financial accounts.
“Everyone knows the rules and we will go through with it,” Infantino said. “The question is, ‘will you really do something?’ And the answer is, ‘yes, of course’. The train has left the station, we have started and there is no way back.”
In an in-depth interview, Infantino declared:
  • Uefa are acting now to avoid meltdown in football and to change how it operates forever
  • The era of sugar daddies such as Roman Abramovich who could plough hundreds of millions into a club is over
  • Financial Fair Play is not the perfect document and can be modified in future
  • European football will still be dominated by elite clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United in future - despite the new legislation
  • Tax-style inspections will be carried out on clubs who break the rules
Uefa say they have secured wholesale backing among Europe’s 660 top division clubs from 53 countries to implement the rules, which are designed to move clubs towards breaking even from next season. Infantino said: “The whole European football movement felt the time is right now to do something, to establish some rules in order to have a better system. In 2009 top division clubs in Europe made a loss of €1.2 billion [£1.08bn]. This is obviously something that if we don’t do something against it will lead us to disaster for European football.
“It should operate in a more rational way. Just like everyone of us is doing at home. If you have in your wallet €100, you can spend €100.”
As an initial compromise, clubs are allowed to record maximum total losses over the following three years of €45m (£40.6m). From 2014 to 2017, that overall permitted loss will fall to €30m (£27m).
Speaking to Goal.com at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Infantino explained that Uefa are prepared to bare their teeth at clubs who do not meet the new requirements.
"People think if it is a big club from a big country, it will be okay. Well, no. It is in the interests of all the clubs that the appropriate measures are taken"
- Gianni Infantino, Uefa general secretary
“You have to comply with the rules and if you do not comply with the rules there will be the ultimate sanctions,” he said. “We have already excluded clubs. This year we have punished five clubs who have qualified sportingly for our competitions but who were not admitted because they did not fulfil the club licensing criteria. For example, Mallorca in Spain. In the last five years, 27 clubs have not been admitted in our competitions either by the national associations or Uefa.
“People think if it is a club from a big country they will be okay. Well, no. If you don’t respect the rules then there are different sanctions possible, including exclusion.
“It is in the interests of all the clubs that the appropriate measures and sanctions are taken if they have to be.”
Based on their most recent published accounts, Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are among the European elite who would fall foul of the regulations.
However, Infantino said: “We have to be careful not to apply future rules to past situations. Until now it was not required to break even and you could have an owner who injects money. With the new rules it is possible, under certain conditions, for owners to inject money in the clubs but what is important is that the movement of football clubs is self-sustainable.
“Our objective has never been to punish anyone. Why should we do that? It is about helping and bringing the whole movement to a higher level.
“The aim is that in 10 years from now we will not see any more a €1.2bn loss from the professional football movement, that we will not have any more situations of deep financial debts at clubs. I hope that all these 660 clubs will, if not be breaking even, have a financial situation that allows them and all the other clubs to perform regularly in our competitions.”
Asked how the likes of Chelsea or Manchester City, who posted a £121m loss in their most recent set of accounts, can possibly come close to breaking even over the next three years, Infantino said: “Well, they will have to. Or at least they will have to break even within the exceptions possible. They know it.
"The rules have been known by everyone for more than one year so I’m sure they will have to have a strategy in place. If they are spending money, they must have an idea of getting a return on their investment. What is clear are the rules are there and the consequences as well.”
"As the tax authorities do from time to time, there will be inspections and the club will need to produce evidence to justify expenses"
- Andrea Traverso, Uefa head of club licensing
Andrea Traverso, Uefa’s head of club licensing and the brains behind the financial fair play document, revealed that the governing body will carry out inspections on clubs who are struggling to meet the new requirements and will continue to scrutinise them closely for up to five years.
Traverso told Goal.com: “Clubs will submit financial accounts to Uefa, the panel will monitor the financial information, they will scrutinise it against specific indicators. Those clubs flashing certain indicators will be picked up for further control. As the tax authorities do from time to time, there will be inspections and the club will need to produce evidence to justify expenses.
“If, at the end of the inspection, the club has given satisfactory responses, then obviously nothing will be done. The whole mechanism will be done in co-operation with the national associations and the clubs themselves so that there will be a continuous dialogue over the whole period of monitoring from a minimum of three to a maximum of five years.”
Nevertheless, Infantino does not anticipate that the new rules will narrow the gap between rich and poor.
“Historically, the big clubs have always existed. In 10 years’ time the big clubs will still dominate European football. As it was 50 years ago.”
Uefa president Michel Platini is the driving force behind Financial Fair Play and has effectively pinned his reputation of it being successful. “It will work because everyone wants it to work,” added Infantino. “We are very confident about it. We have received and are receiving positive feedback. The questions are basically the same as you are asking. ‘Will you really do this?’ ‘If I am respecting the rules, then I want the other ones to do the same.’ The answer is yes.”
The Uefa general secretary says the era of sugar daddies such as City’s Sheikh Mansour and Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich is drawing to a close.
“I wouldn’t say the era is dead but I would say what is over is the sugar daddy who can put hundreds of millions in the club. This will no longer be possible," he added.
“Football shouldn’t become just a toy for a few rich people who can just play with it and, then, when they are tired, nobody knows what happens.”
Infantino discounts the possibility of a breakaway European league made up of clubs who are unwilling to comply with Financial Fair Play but he does admit that the rules might need some fine-tuning over time.
“It’s not the perfect document, we are aware of that,” he said. “It is the first time we have done something like this. We are learning as we go along but we are very confident that if we find something that needs to be addressed, we will correct it.
“Certainly there are loopholes but this is not the reason why we shouldn’t do it to start with. When we find out about the loopholes we will correct them.”

Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has told Jose Mourinho to reduce his opinions in the media and focus on matters on the pitch.

The outspoken coach has been at the centre of controversy and locked in a war of words with his Barcelona rival Pep Guardiola, which has landed him in hot water with UEFA.

"It is important for Mourinho to step aside and lower the decibels," Marca reports the Argentinian as saying after Madrid's 4-0 win over Getafe.

"
Valdano is the mouthpiece of Real Madrid, not Mourinho," club spokesman Eladio Parames added, when asked about the claims.

The comments are sure to throw up questions over 'The Special One's' future at the Bernabeu, with the Portuguese unable to halt Barca's stranglehold over the Spanish game.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that he would like to be reunited with AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The pair worked together during their days at Inter, winning three Serie A titles.

The Swede also has the reputation of winning the league with the club that he plays for, having done so on eight consecutive occasions - with Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and AC Milan.

His two triumphs with Juve, however, were later revoked due to the Calciopoli scandal.

But now the Italian boss has admitted that he would "immediately" find a way to fit the Swede into his squad, should the forward be willing to make a move to Eastlands.

"If Zlatan wants to come to City, I would immediately find him a place," Mancini said in The Sun.

City have secured a top four spot in the Premier League this season, and are looking to end their trophy drought in the FA Cup final against Stoke City this weekend.

It never really mattered to me in which position I played. I just wanted to play football. I was used at left-back when I played for Vitoria and I liked it. When I moved to Japan, my friend and agent Teo told me that I would be a great attacker if I improved some areas of my game. He believed that I could become the strongest of all if I worked hard and this is where it got me.

What is your biggest strength and which area of your game do you want to improve?

I need to improve my aerial skills, even though I have already made some progress since moving to Portugal. My biggest strengths are my power, speed, technique and powerful shot.

What tactical set-up fits your style of play best?

There is not one style in particular that suits me. I think that every formation has its pros and cons. It's crucial to have a coach who understands your strengths and weaknesses. Obviously, I prefer to play up front, close to the opponents. That way I can make use of my strengths in one-on-one situations.

Who is your dream partner in attack? Someone with who you would form an unstoppable duo...

I can only repeat what I said before: Ronaldo, 'Fenomeno'.

If you had to describe yourself to the fans who do not know you yet, what type of player are you?

I would say that I am a professional who always gives his utmost to be the best in what he does. I have already made over 50 appearances this term, so I pay close attention to my body and work hard in training. The team is the most important thing for me. The most important thing in a footballer is his character. I want to be friends with everybody in the dressing room.

La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A: In what league would you like to play and why?

There is not one league in particular that I would like to play in. All the aforementioned leagues have a lot of prestige and have some great players. I really respect those leagues. What's more important than anything else for me is the team: I want to play at a team that fights for the title and has ambition.

What is your opinion on the Italian league? Many say that it is inferior to La Liga, Premier League and Bundesliga, do you agree?

I can only say that Serie A is one of the most important competitions in the world. Like in the fashion industry, the best players play in Italy. The quality of Italian football is clear to see and it is a wonderful country.

Is there an Italian player or someone playing in Serie A who you admire in some way?

I really admire Gennaro Gattuso for his attitude on the pitch. He is a real warrior. I like Andrea Pirlo for his technique. There are so many good players that it would be unfair just to name a few of them. I am also thinking of the Brazilian players: Robinho, Pato, Maicon, Julio Cesar...

The directors of AC Milan have admitted that they are interested in signing you: do you feel you are ready for a big move or do you want to stay at Porto?

I am very pleased with the interest of Milan. They are a great team with a marvellous history. And it is very important for us Brazilians that they have had players like Leonardo, Cafu, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and lots of other famous players from my country.

I currently have a contract with Porto, though, and I respect that deal. The people here have always been good to me and treated me like family. I became a better player here and feel respected. I will always do my utmost to do a good job at Porto.

Milan already have some great attackers: do you feel confident enough to fight for a starting berth at this stage of your career or do you want the guarantee of first-team football?
I am an important player at Porto and work hard to keep that up. I have never really thought about competition for places and I do not think it is a problem. I even think it is a good thing as it pushes players to play to their maximum.

Someone has said that you would be the perfect alternative to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Do you think you two are similar players?
Lots of players have similar characteristics, but they are never exactly the same. These differences depend on the style of play and the occasion. The most important thing is to help out your teammates.

Your buy-out clause has been set at €100 million. How much do you think that you are really worth?

100m (smiles).

Tell us about Andre Villas Boas: What type of coach is he? How is his contact with the players? What are his secrets?

He is a great coach and a good person. He is still young, but he is in absolute control of what happens at the team. He has a lot of authority and really knows what he is doing and saying. He is destined to become one of the best coaches in the world. I do not know his secrets. All I know is that he is a great guy to work with.

Barcelona are keen to take a second look at Fenerbahce defenders Andre Santos and Gokhan Gonul as scouts prepare another trip to Turkey.

A team of observers from the Primera Division powerhouse will arrive for Sunday's game against Ankaragucu as the race for the Superlig title heats up, according to Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik.

Both men have attracted the interest from Spanish champions Barca with good performances throughout the season.

Barca scout Luis Gonzalez travelled to to see the duo live in action two weeks ago as Fenerbahce won 2-0 against Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor.

The Catalans are looking to add more depth to their defence in the summer transfer window and they reportedly see Santos and Gonul as potential reinforcements.

The 28-year-old Santos joined Fener from Corinthians in the summer 2009 and the Brazil international has since developed into a key player at the Istanbul giants, with his current contract at the club running until the summer of 2014.

Gonul has made over 100 official appearances for Fenerbahce since joining them from Genclerbirligi in 2007 and the 26-year-old is considered to be one of the best players in the Turkish league. He is under contract until the summer of 2013.

Who is Arsenal's Player of the Season?

Many Arsenal fans will bemoan what has been another 'not quite there' season under Arsene Wenger, but amidst the criticism levelled at a side through which consistency fails to run with a regularity befitting a title winning side, Gunners supporters will have plenty of positives to take from the 2010-11 campaign.

Victory over Barcelona at the Emirates will be seen in the eyes of most as the result of Arsenal's season but the 3-1 demolition of Chelsea holds the promise of a side no longer phased by the illustrious names that surround them. In clashes between the Premier League's top four, Wenger's men have fared best this season, a transformation that will provide comfort, albeit a little cold in the club's empty trophy cabinet. Conceding in the dying embers, as was the case against Birmingham in their League Cup final defeat at Wembley, continues to trouble the north Londoners, who have shown flickers of brilliance once again this term.

Honourable mentions go to Robin van Persie, who has once again been relied on to put the ball in the back of the net when those around him have conspired to do so, and Johan Djourou, a central defender who is showing ever increasing promise in an area which needs somewhat of an overhaul in the summer. However, the pair just missed out on our shortlist.

France coach Laurent Blanc will not be dismissed from his position as national team coach for his role in the racism row, Le Monde reports.

Along with other figures in the international set-up, Blanc was under investigation after news broke that he had allegedly discussed with other officials plans for a quota, designed to limit the number of dual-nationals in youth training centres.

A commission examined the tactician's role in the affair and reached the conclusion that there is no need to punish the former defender for his remarks.

The report on Blanc states: "Some of the things said are unacceptable, but they are not racist comments. However, the talk about the race quotas can be labelled discriminatory because they deal with the ethnic origins of the players."

Investigators found that a system to limit the amount of players of foreign origins was discussed during the meeting of the French Football Federation (FFF), but didn't find any evidence that such a system was effectively installed.

France's minister of sports, Chantal Jouanno, admitted that dual nationality is a serious issue, but made it clear that racial quotas are not the answer to the existing problem.

"The debate about the racial quotas has touched the boundaries of racism. The dual nationality problem is a real issue, but this is not the solution to the problem. Introducing quotas might not be racist, but they contradict the values this sport goes by," commented Jouanno.

It is not yet clear whether the outcome of the investigation will have any consequences for the position of technical director Francois Blaquart, who also took part in the discussions.
